LAST GAMES: The Binghamton Mets split a doubleheader with Richmond to open up the series. Binghamton won the first game, 7-4, scoring all of their runs in the first two innings. TJ Rivera had three hits and matched a season-high with three RBI. LJ Mazzilli had two more hits, on the heels of a four-hit game prior, and Robert Gsellman notched his fifth win in his last seven starts. Paul Sewald notched his 21st save.
Binghamton didn't save any offense for game two, falling, 2-1 against Richmond in the nightcap. The B-Mets were held to four hits, leaving the bases loaded in the sixth. Vince Belnome drove in the lone run, as Rainy Lara was saddled with the loss.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Gabriel Ynoa gets the ball for Binghamton in the series finale. It's his 22nd start of the year, most on the team, and third this year against Richmond. He's 1-0 with a 1.90 in three career starts against Richmond, with one coming last season. More recently, Ynoa is coming off a loss against New Britain, where he allowed five runs and 10 hits in five innings. It was the second time in three starts that he surrendered 10 hits. The five runs allowed were the same total has his previous three starts combined, and the most in 11 outings.
RICHMOND STARTERS: RHP Chase Johnson gets the nod for Richmond in the finale, making his first career Double-A start. It's his third season in San Francisco's organization and his first outing with Richmond. He began the season with San Jose (High-A), going 8-3 with a 2.43 ERA in 20 appearances, 18 starts. He's 5-0 with a 0.94 ERA in his last eight starts. He has not lost since June 21st, allowing fewer than two earned runs in each of his last eight outings. The righty is coming off back-to-back shutouts (11.2 total innings).
VS. RICHMOND: Thursday is the final game of the season series between Binghamton and Richmond and it concludes the Flying Squirrels lone visit to NYSEG Stadium. Richmond has won five of the first nine matchups, holding Binghamton to one run or less in each of their last four wins. Richmond has made one trip to Binghamton every season since coming into existence (2010). A win Thursday would give Richmond their first season series victory over Binghamton since becoming the Flying Squirrels before the 2010 season.
AT STAKE: Thursday is the rubber match to decide the three game series between these two teams. Binghamton is 3-6 in rubber matches this season, but 7-2-2 in their last 11 series. Richmond has won one of their last seven series.
G0000MEZ: Gilbert Gomez has gone hitless in his last 12 games. He has not registered a hit since July 29th, going 0-for-16 in his last 12 games. He is 1-for-21 since July 19th. Gomez is 0-for-10 as a pinch-hitter.
K-ROD: Josh Rodriguez is hitless in last 15 at-bats, with seven of them ending in strikeout. Rodriguez has still gotten on base, drawing eight walks and getting hit by a pitch over his last five games. He has not played since last Tuesday (August 11th) due to Injury.
STRIKEOUT STRUGGLES: Jonathan Galvez has struck out in eight of his last 15 at-bats, while managing two hits. He has struck out three times in two of his last three starts.
KING WITHOUT A CROWN: Jared King is 1-for-14 since a season-high seven-game hitting streak. He is still batting .300 in 15 August games.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets travel to New Hampshire to play four games in three day against the Fisher Cats, beginning Friday at 7:05 PM. RHP Matt Koch starts for the B-Mets against RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx.
