
Sea Dogs defeat SeaWolves

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs pounded 15 hits and received solid pitching defeating the Erie SeaWolves 8-4 Saturday night at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 7,047. The win snapped a three game slide for the Sea Dogs and evened the series at one game apiece.
The Sea Dogs collected at least one hit in every inning and scored in five of the eight innings. All nine batters would reach safely and eight of the nine collected at least one hit. Dan Butler was the only Sea Dog without a hit.
The Sea Dogs did not waste any time taking a quick 2-0 lead in the first. Matt Spring highlighted the first inning with a solo home run, his fourth in 19 games with the Sea Dogs.
Jeremy Hazelbaker singled in the second, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by catcher John Murrian. Hazelbaker leads the team with 27 stolen bases. He was 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored and picked-up a RBI groundout in the third.
Will Middlebrooks lead the offensive attack with a three hit performance including a RBI double in the fourth and a RBI single in the sixth, giving him a team high 76 RBI.
Most of the Sea Dogs damage came at the hands of Erie starter Brooks Brown (2-8) who allowed seven runs (six earned) on ten hits in four innings.
Meanwhile Portland starter Alex Wilson opened with four shutout innings holding the SeaWolves to two hits before running into trouble in the fifth. Wilson surrendered three runs on five hits in the fifth including three infield singles and a bloop single to left. A walk to Rawley Bishop to load the bases with two outs forced Wilson from the game, preventing him from earning his tenth win of the season.
Kyle Fernandes (2-4) relieved Wilson and tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless relief yielding only one hit to earn his second win of the season.
Blake Maxwell pitched the ninth giving up a RBI double to Justin Henry.
