Trenton Slams Past the Senators 7-4

August 13, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Trenton parlayed a first-inning grand slam off the bat of Zoilo Almonte into a 7-4 win over the Senators on Saturday night at Metro Bank Park. With the Bowie Baysox winning at home on Saturday night, the Senators dropped back into 2nd place, 1/2 game behind Bowie.

Trenton started the game with back-to-back bunts, on the first two pitches, with one being a hit and one an error to put two on with no outs. After two strikeouts, Senators' starter Oliver Perez walked Melky Mesa and then Almonte followed with his third home run with Trenton. Perez took the loss, lasting just 4.1 innings and allowing seven runs, just three earned.

Harrisburg would come back with three runs in the third, with the final two scoring on a double by Leonard Davis. Davis had three hits in the game for the second game in a row. Trenton came right back in the fourth to score a pair then tacked on their final run on a home run by Mesa giving the Thunder a 7-3 lead. The Sens would have opportunities throughout the game but didn't score again until Chris McConnell homered leading off the ninth inning.

Craig Heyer picked up his first win this year against the Senators by pitching 6.1 innings and allowing three unearned runs.

The Senators are now 67-53 while Trenton is 60-59.

The final game of the three-game series between the Senators and Trenton is Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and on your ipad or iphone beginning at 5:50 p.m.
