Scrappers Need 10 to Start Winning Streak

For the first time in almost a month, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (12-18) have won two in a row. The Scrappers beat the Staten Island Yankees (18-12) 5-4 in 10 innings on Tuesday night at Eastwood Field.

The big hit for Mahoning Valley came in the bottom of the eighth, when Emmanuel Tapia crushed a solo home run to right center to tie the game 4-4.

In the bottom of the tenth with two strikes and two outs, Austin Fisher lined a single to center to score Mark Mathias, and to give the Scrappers the 5-4 win.

Mathias continues to swing a hot bat. He was 2-for-5. He is 9-for-15 in his last three games. Ka'ai Tom had two hits after going 0-for-6 on Monday against Williamsport.

Casey Shane was tagged for all four Yankees runs. He went four and one-third innings giving up seven hits and four runs, while striking out six. He set down the first six men he faced, but allowed two runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth.

Jose Zapata (2-3) earned the win. He struck out two and did not allow a hit in his two innings. Michael Schaub (2-1) earned the loss. He gave up two hits in two thirds of an inning.

The Scrappers and Yankees play the second game of a three-game set on Wednesday night at 7:05 at Eastwood Field. Jared Robinson gets the ball for the Scrappers.
