Connecticut Takes Opening Game with Batavia

BATAVIA, NY-The Connecticut Tigers (14-16) took the first game of a three game series over the Batavia Muckdogs (9-21) by a score of 2-1. For the Tigers it was their second win in a row.

Batavia scored first off Connecticut starter Matt Hall. Shortstop Anfernee Seymour singled with one out and scored one batter later on a double by third basemen Alexander Fernandez making it 1-0.

Connecticut responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. Right fielder Tanner Donnels reached on an error to start the inning and second basemen Pat Mackenzie walked. With one out shortstop Steven Fuentes tripled home both runners and the Tigers took a 2-1 lead.

Chase Edwards (3-3) worked in relief of Hall for the win and picked up the win. Edwards ended up going five innings, allowing two hits and striking out six with just one walk. He retired the first ten men he faced. Gerson Moreno (SV 2) pitched a perfect ninth to close the door on the game.

Connecticut will play at Batavia tomorrow in the second game of a three game series. The first pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
