BROOKLYN, NY - July 20th, 2015 - On a scorching day at MCU Park, Jeff Diehl cooled off with an icy Gatorade shower after hitting the game-winning sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the ninth, pushing the Cyclones to a 5-4 victory against the Lake Monsters. Brandon Brosher hit a game-tying three-run homerun, his third of the season, in the eighth to get his team back in the game as Brooklyn bats found their swing once again in taking the series against Vermont.

The game began with a pitchers duel. After matching zeroes through the first four frames, the Cyclones notched their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Vermont's Derek De Young sent Pedro Perez walking while a single by Oswald Caraballo pushed him second. The bases became loaded for Brooklyn after Branden Kaupe grounded into a force out and Cyclones slugger Vinny Siena then sent a line drive single to centerfield that brought Perez home giving Brooklyn the lead.

Vermont offense wasted no time in countering with offense of their own. After Church walked the Lake Monsters' lead off batter and a ground ball single followed, Craig Missigman came in for relief and made his best effort to limit the damage. Coming in with zero outs, the right-hander walked his first batter to load the bases with Lake Monsters just as New York-Penn League RBI leader Chris Iriart then stepped up to plate. A single by Vermont's starting first baseman kicked off his team's offensive rally. Another single followed by a ground force out would get two more runs on the board for the Lake Monsters and give them a 3-1 lead.

Making his 2015 Cyclones debut, righty Dawrin Frias kept his composure through a stressful seventh inning in which Brooklyn defense committed two errors in one play to load the bases for Vermont. While the Lake Monsters stranded all three runners on base courtesy of the 'Clones thrower, Vermont's lead would be extended further in the eighth. With Nicco Blank in from the bullpen, the right-hander walked the first runner he faced who then stole second and advance to third on a passed ball by Brosher. A double by Seth Brown would score Vermont's runner and push the Lake Monster's lead to 4-1.

With a three-run deficit, it was a steep uphill battle for Brooklyn but the team clawed its way back into the game during the eighth. Outfielder Michael Bernal began the inning by reaching second on an error by Vermont's center fielder. After Jeff Diehl walked putting runners on first and second, Brosher stepped up and crushed a game-tying three-run homer over the left field wall at MCU Park. With a 4-4 game heading into the ninth, the rubber game was Brooklyn's for the taking.

Corey Taylor held off the Lake Monsters through their final inning at bat. Pinch-hitter Tucker Tharp lead off the ninth for Brooklyn with a single while Kaupe hit a sacrifice fly to push the outfielder to second. A single by Vinny Siena and a walk for Michael Bernal loaded the bases with Cyclones. With two outs, Diehl's sacrifice fly to deep center brought Tharp home and ended the game with Brooklyn taking the W.

The Cyclones hit the road to kick off a three-game series against the West Virginia Black Bears on Tuesday July 21st. Southpaw Blake Taylor will take the mound in his second start of the season for Brooklyn after transferring from the GCL Mets in early July. Be sure to welcome the Boys of Summer back home on Wednesday July 29th at 7 p.m. as the team takes on the Hudson Valley Renegades in a commuter series. It will be 80's at MCU Park and a Juan Lagares Golden Glove Bobble Head will be given to the first 3,000 fans in attendance. It is also Way Back Wednesday on Coney Island so all tickets are just $10 and are still available for purchase by calling 718-507-TIXX, logging on to BrooklynCyclones.com or in person at the MCU Park Box Office.
