Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, announced today that veteran winger Scott Wray has been named Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the term ending February 5th. Wray led the Rush to a perfect 4-0-0 record last week, pulling the team to within five points of first place in the Turner Conference. In recognition of his achievement, Wray will receive a special gift from Oakley. To learn more about the wide range of Oakley's products, visit www.oakley.com.
In four games last week, Wray led the Rush with six goals and three assists for nine total points and a plus-4 rating. On Monday, Wray served as the hero in a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind shootout win over the Dayton Gems, netting a pair of goals including the game-tying marker in the final minute. In Friday's 5-2 win over the Evansville IceMen, the Ottawa, Ontario native collected four points and scored the game winner in a contest that included his second career hat trick.
"It's a real honor and confidence boost to be named Player of the Week," said Wray. "Obviously, this is an recognition I share with my teammates who have done a superb job. This award is just a reflection of how well our hockey team is playing right now and hopefully we can continue to climb the standings."
Wray, currently in his 13th season, is enjoying the most prolific offensive run by a Rush skater in the team's brief history. The veteran captain tied a franchise record with goals in six straight games, also serving as the longest streak in the CHL this season. In all, the 5-11, 198-pound Wray has amassed eleven goals in his last nine games. To kick off the run, Wray ended a 13-game goalless drought with a pair of goals in a 5-3 win over the Wichita Thunder on January 14th.
"It's great to see Scott playing such great hockey at the right time of the year," said Rush Head Coach Joe Ferras. "He has been outstanding both offensively and defensively and to see him get rewarded as Player of the Week is well deserved. For one of our older players to step up when we're battling all of the injuries we have is huge. Wray is a true professional and brings leadership to our hockey club both on and off the ice."
Through 41 games this season, Wray ranks fifth on the team with 30 points (15G, 15A) and second on the squad with 136 shots.
