Quad City Mallards News Release
QUACK TRACKS
Splitsville
The Mallards split a pair of games last weekend. The Mallards rebounded from last Friday's loss to Fort Wayne- Quad City's second straight setback- with a 5-4 shootout win over Bloomington one night later.
Tight
The Mallards are two points behind fourth place Rapid City and three points behind third place Missouri in the Turner Conference standings. The Rush has two games in hand on both the Mallards and the Mavericks.
Bustin' Loose
The Mallards have scored the second most goals in the CHL- 152- and rank third in the league in goals per game (3.5). Jared Brown scored Quad City's first goal last Saturday night at 3:21 of the first period during 5-on-5 play to end a run that had seen the Mallards go 129:51 without an even strength goal.
Home Cooking
The Mallards halted a three-game home losing streak with last Saturday's win; the Flock has gone 8-3-0 in its last 11 home outings.
Sudden Life
With last Saturday's win the Mallards improved to 5-1 in the shootout this season. Only the Wichita Thunder (6-1) has a better shootout record than Quad City- though the Thunder's lone shootout loss came at the hands of the Mallards. The Mallards have also gone 4-0 in games decided in overtime- the best sudden death record in the league. The Mallards' 9-1 mark in games settled in either overtime or the shootout is also the best in the CHL this season.
Power Play
The Mallards have gone 8-for-21 on the power play over their last four games to take over the league lead in power play efficiency (22.7 percent). The Mallards have scored a total of 51 power play goals- no other CHL club has reached 40 yet.
Double Down
The Mallards have scored nearly twice as many special teams goals as they have allowed. Quad City has produced 58 special teams goals (seven shorthanded in addition to 51 on the power play) and has given up 30 (29 power play and one shorthanded).
Best Shot
The Mallards last Saturday night came within one shot of producing 50 shots in a game for the third time this season. By outshooting Bloomington 49-34 in that contest, the Mallards lifted their league best average to 37.3 shots per game.

Only the Wichita Thunder (6-1) has a better shootout record than Quad City- though the Thunder's lone shootout loss came at the hands of the Mallards. Little Big Man
Brandon Marino (28-33-61) scored once and added two assists (before also scoring in the shootout) last Saturday night against Bloomington to reclaim sole possession of the league point scoring lead after heading into the evening tied with Allen's Bruce Graham. Marino, who has produced ten points (three goals and seven assists) in just his last five games, also leads the league in goals and power play goals (10), is tied for second in shorthanded goals and is tied for fourth in assists.
G-Man
Eric Giosa (20-32-52)- who, like Marino, scored both in regulation and in the shootout last Saturday night- is now tied for fourth in the league in points, tied for third in power play goals (8), tied for sixth in assists and tied for eighth in goals.
Brown Out
Jared Brown (16-27-43) added two goals to his season total last Saturday by scoring in regulation and then converting the shootout-winning penalty shot (which does register as a goal for the player who scores it). Among rookies, Brown is now tied for the league lead in assists, tied for second in points and ranks fourth in goals.
Big Vic
Taylor Vichorek (2-6-8) has scored two power play goals and totaled five points in five games joining the Mallards' power play unit as a forward. The 6' 8", 250-pound Vichorek, who plays defense at even strength and on the penalty kill, has totaled two goals and eight points in 31 games this season.
Brown Out, Take 2
David Brown (9-5-0, 2.64, .913) has reached the CHL minimum minutes played threshold necessary for goaltenders to be ranked among the league leaders. Brown is tied for seventh in goals against average and ranks tenth in save percentage.
Milestone
Bob Preece has played 99 games over his first two pro seasons and is set to play his one hundredth career game tomorrow night when the Mallards meet Dayton.
Head-to-Head
The Mallards have gone 6-2-0 against the Gems. Tomorrow night's game is the first meeting between the two clubs since Quad City trounced Dayton 9-1 on January 14 at the i wireless Center. Marino has piled up 17 points (six goals and 11 assists) over the first eight games between the two teams. The Komets have won their last four meetings with the Mallards after Quad City took the first game of the season series. The Mallards and Sundogs split a two game series in December in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Giosa scored the game winner in the Mallards' December 13 4-3 overtime victory over Arizona and totaled five points over the two games between the two teams.
