
Komets Back on Top; Mallards Here for Comcast Report Card Night Friday

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets collected four points after winning both games played for week 16 of 2011-12 and improved to 27-13-2 for 56 points after 42 games. The Komets regained sole possession of first place in the Turner Conference and lead second-place Evansville by two points with 24 games and seven weeks remaining.
In review of last week, the Komets clipped the Mallards in Quad City Friday 3-2 for the K's fourth straight win over Quad City. Saturday the Komets returned home after a two-week road tour to stop the visiting Dayton Gems 3-1 and take a commanding 7-2-0 series lead over the Gems.
Streaking Komets -- Forward Chris Auger extended his point streak to five games (4 goals, 4 assists) with points in each game played. Center Brett Smith had points in each of the two games to finish the week riding a three-game point streak (1 goal, 3 assists).
Komets of the week -- Auger scored the game-winning goal in each game and added an assist for a three-point week.....Smith scored a goal Friday and added two assists Saturday for a three-point week.....left wing Artem Pondshendyalov was the star of the game Friday scoring a goal and dishing two assists for his third three-point night of the season.....goaltender Nick Boucher (24-9-1) earned both wins stopping 63 of 66 shots for a 1.50 goals-against average and .955 save percentage for the week.
Boucher eclipses 200 -- Komet netminder Boucher completed the week with 201 career wins and 201 Fort Wayne career games. Boucher registered his 200th career win Friday at Quad City. Coincidentally it was also his 200th Fort Wayne career game.
K's getting busy -- The Komets begin a stretch of five games in seven nights when they skate their sixth game of the season at Evansville Wednesday at 8:15pm ET. Friday the Komets return home to host Quad City at 8pm before getting back on the road to Dayton Saturday for a 7pm faceoff at Hara Arena. Then the Komets travel to Bloomington for a pair of games in three nights. Sunday the Komets face the Blaze at 5pm ET and remain in Bloomington to celebrate Valentine's Day with an 8:05pm ET faceoff Tuesday.
COMCAST REPORT CARD NIGHT for 2012 is this Friday -- The 2012 Comcast Report Card Night will be this Friday, Feb. 10, when the Komets host Quad City at 8pm. Students with an "A" or "A equivalent" on a report card or teacher letter receives a free ticket to the game and Comcast makes a donation to the Literacy Alliance for every "A" student who attends. Fans are encouraged to get tickets early in advance at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Ticket Office (subject to availability).
Komets team with Xfinity for live telecast of this Friday night's home game -- The Komets and Xfinity partnered for five live home telecasts on Xfinity Channel 81 this season. The partnership started with the home opener Oct. 22 and continues with this Friday night's telecast of the Komets' annual Comcast Report Card Night game against Quad City at 8pm. Fort Wayne broadcast veteran Kent Hormann will handle play-by-play. In addition to this Friday night's telecast, Xfinity plans to broadcast the Komets' season finale Mar. 25 and may include a Komet playoff game in April.
Friday night Marathon Nights -- Friday nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer with three fill-ups when the Komets host the Quad City Mallards this Friday at 8pm. Fill Up Cards are available at participating Marathon stations.
GAMES THIS WEEK
- Wednesday at Evansville -- The Komets get a busy stretch of five games in seven nights started with an 8:15pm ET faceoff Wednesday at the Ford Center in Evansville. It will be a battle for first place in the CHL's Turner Conference. This week starts with the Komets leading the second-place IceMen (25-12-4, 54 points) by two points. Evansville skates at Bloomington Tuesday before hosting the Komets Wednesday. Wednesday's match will be the 10th of 13 meetings this season with the Komets leading the season series 6-3-0. After winning five straight games against the IceMen the Komets dropped the last meeting 3-1 at Evansville. The IceMen enter the week riding a three-game losing streak, but are 8-2-1 in their last 11 games.
- Mallards visit Friday -- The Komets will host Quad City Friday at 8pm. It's the sixth of nine meetings and the third of four in Fort Wayne. The Komets lead the season series 4-1-0 after clipping the Mallards last Friday night in Quad City. Quad City (24-18-1, 49 points) are battling for a playoff position, trailing fourth-place Rapid City by two points. Quad City enters the week 3-2-0 after their last five outings and will host Dayton Tuesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday.
- Komets at Dayton Saturday -- The Komets will make their fifth of seven trips to Hara Arena in Dayton this Saturday to face the Gems at 7pm. The Komets are unbeaten at Hara in four trips this season (4-0-0) and lead the season series against the Gems 7-2-0 after last Saturday's 3-1 home win over Dayton at the Coliseum. The Gems (15-20-8, 38 points) are 13 points out of playoff contention with 23 games remaining and are 2-3-1 in their last six games.
Bus Trip -- Komet Kuarters is sponsoring a bus trip to Dayton for Saturday night's game. The bus will depart from the parking lot of Tokens 'n Tickets at 1:30pm. The cost is $32 per person which includes transportation and ticket to the game. Fans can register for the Bus Trip at Komet Kuarters, Coliseum Shoppes, 515 E. - Komets at Bloomington Sunday, and Tuesday -- The Komets will skate two games at Bloomington when they make the trip Sunday. Sunday's faceoff at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois, is slated for 5:05pm ET and will mark the third of five games for the Komets at Bloomington. The last-place Blaze (15-24-3, 33 points) overpowered the Komets in the last meeting 2-1 in Fort Wayne Jan. 13 to even the season series at 3-3-0 after six meetings. After Sunday's matinee, the Komets will again face the Blaze at Bloomington Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 8:05pm ET to complete a run of five games in seven nights. The Blaze will host Evansville Tuesday, skate at Dayton Thursday and host Arizona Friday before welcoming the Komets Sunday.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, I ndiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The half-hour show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts.
TONIGHT, Feb. 6, Komet head coach Al Sims and assistant coach Gary Graham will be special guests.
60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, can be heard online at Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.
