KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Reid Santos (8-5) silenced the Sioux Falls Pheasants (40-52) with a four-hit shutout on Tuesday night as the Kansas City T-Bones (44-49) fired the opening salvo in a four-game series with a 4-0 victory at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Santos retired the first 12 batters he faced before surrendering a leadoff single to Mark Shorey in the fifth inning. Sioux Falls put another runner on base with a walk later in the inning, but that was the only frame in which the Pheasants had multiple runners on in the contest. The left-hander allowed just three more baserunners over his final four innings and retired the final four batters to end his evening.
It marked the first career shutout for Santos and dropped his ERA on the season to 4.94. He struck out six in the contest while throwing 77 of his 113 pitches for strikes.
Kansas City struck for their first run against Ben Moore (12-4) in the third on a sacrifice fly by Ray Sadler. Justin Snyder added a solo home run in the fourth to give the T-Bones a 2-0 advantage. Moore left in the seventh after surrendering three straight one-out hits, including an RBI single to Gerardo Caceres. The final run scored on an RBI groundout by Keanon Simon later in the inning.
The right-hander was charged with four runs on eight hits over six and one-thirds innings in the loss.
Sadler's sacrifice fly pushed his season RBI total to 88, just six shy of the franchise record set at 94 by Eddie Pearson in 2004. Sadler has seven games left in the season to reach that mark.
Kris Johnson (4-3, 3.59) takes the mound for Kansas City on Wednesday night opposite Adam Cowart (5-6, 6.06) and the Pheasants. First pitch is set for 7:05. Wednesday is the final Facebook Friends Night of the season, so make sure to "like" the T-Bones to see the exclusive offer!
