Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Amarillo Sox 11-4 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday night.

Wichita's offense had three innings of three or more runs, while Derek Blacksher scattered three earned runs on seven hits over eight innings to pick up his eighth win of the season.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Jimmy Mojica singled to left and took second on Josh Horn's sacrifice bunt. After Juan Richardson walked, Carlos Rivera lined a single to right-center field to score Mojica with the tying run. Two batters later, Mitch Einertson ripped a double down the left field line to score Richardson and Rivera.

Lee Cruz hit a solo home run off of Blacksher in the top of the third, but the Wingnuts responded one inning later to break the game open. Jorge Delgado and Einertson opened the bottom of the fourth with singles against Sox' starter Austin Chambliss. Josh Workman then laid down a bunt towards the third base line that Chambliss mishandled, leading to an infield single that loaded the bases. Edwin Bellorin ripped a double down the left field line that scored all three runners to make it 6-2.

Rivera hit a one-out, solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth to drive in the Wingnuts' sixth run.

Nick Farnsworth hit an RBI, ground rule double in the top of the sixth that cut the Wingnuts lead to 7-3, but Wichita plated four in the bottom of the seventh against reliever LaCurtis Mayes to stretch their lead to eight runs. Rivera drew a leadoff walk and went to second on Delgado's line drive single to center. Einertson crushed an opposite field double to right-center that scored Rivera.

With runners now on second and third, Workman singled up the middle and through a drawn-in field to make it 9-3. Bellorin hit a chopper to third baseman Ron Fenwick, who gloved the ball and fired home to try and get Einertson. The throw went wide of catcher Kevin Butler and allowed Einertson to score. Mike Conroy capped off the inning with an RBI groundout to shortstop that brought in Workman.

Blacksher is now 5-2 with the Wingnuts this season. Blacksher walked two and struck out four in the win.

Eric Gilliland allowed an earned run in the top of the ninth before closing out the game.

Van Pope drove in Amarillo's first run with a two-out, RBI single to right in the top of the first.
