Santa Cruz Warriors Notch Sixth Consecutive Win Tonight over South Bay Lakers, 97-89

SANTA CRUZ, CA -The Santa Cruz Warriors (6-0) beat the South Bay Lakers (1-5) 97-89 tonight at Kaiser Permanente Arena to secure the team's sixth consecutive win. This is the team's longest winning streak since ending the 2016-17 season with six consecutive wins to make the NBA G League Playoffs.

Reserve guard Kendrick Nunn led the Warriors with a game-high 22 points, his third consecutive game leading the team in scoring off the bench, to go along with eight rebounds. Guard Darius Morris added 19 points, six rebounds and a game-high 11 assists. In his first game since the season opener, forward Juan Toscano-Anderson finished the game with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, his first double-double of the season.

The Lakers were led by two-way forward Johnathan Williams with a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Isaac Bonga, currently on assignment from the Los Angeles Lakers, finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Guard Scott Machado, who played in the 2013 NBA G League Finals as a member of the Sea Dubs, finished with 10 points and a team-high nine assists.

Morris set the tone in the first quarter with eight points and three rebounds, and a nine-point scoring outburst by Nunn in the second gave Santa Cruz a 52-41 lead in the first half. However, the Warriors scored a franchise-low 13 points in the third while Williams took over for South Bay with eight points and eight rebounds in the third to tie the game at 65.

In the fourth quarter, Santa Cruz scored 32 points on 14-of-20 from the field (70.0 FG%) to pull away from the Lakers. With the game within one score, 87-85 and just under four minutes remaining, the Warriors went on a 10-4 run to end the game thanks to two fast break buckets by Toscano-Anderson to end the game strong.

The Warriors will continue Championship Weekend on Sunday night against the Northern Arizona Suns (tip-off 5:00 p.m.), where fans will have a photo opportunity with Golden State's three Larry O'Brien Championship trophies. In addition, the first 1,500 fans to arrive at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Sunday night will receive a 2018 NBA Championship Replica Ring.
