GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Canton Charge (2-3), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, were defeated on the road by the Grand Rapids Drive (3-3), 90-82, at the DeltaPlex Arena on Saturday night.
Canton found themselves ahead 72-70 heading into the fourth quarter after 18 lead changes and 7 ties over the first 36 minutes of play. Both teams went scoreless for the initial 2:14 of the fourth before Johnny Hamilton initiated a 11-2 Drive run that gave the hosts the lead for good. Grand Rapids' defense stifled the visitors' offense in the fourth, allowing just three field goals and 10 points overall in the final 12 minutes.
The Charge scored 56 of their 82 points in the paint, while hitting just 5-of-22 shots outside of it and 3-of-11 from long range. Kobi Simmons and JaCorey Williams each scored a game-high 21 points to lead Canton. Bonzie Colson II posted his second double-double of the year with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in 32 minutes. Scoochie Smith added six points, eight rebounds and three steals in 31 minutes.
While shooting 34% from the field as a team, Grand Rapids was 29-of-26 (81%) from the foul line. Hamilton finished with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds with five blocks in 24 minutes off the bench. Henry Ellenson chipped in eight points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in 33 minutes.
