Ontario Clippers News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (1-4) fall short to the Northern Arizona Suns (2-4), 120-117, thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by two-way player George King.
With the score tied at 117, the Clippers had a chance to win the game, but failed to capitalize on a drive to the basket by two-way player Johnathan Motley. Northern Arizona secured the defensive rebound and called a timeout as the buzzer went off, which they were awarded after a short huddle by the officials. With 1.3 seconds on the clock, King received the inbound pass in the corner and hit the three-pointer to win it as time expired.
The three-pointer was King's fifth of the night as he finished with a team-high 23 points.
Phoenix Suns assignee Eli Okobo added 22 points with four rebounds and a team-high 8 assists.
For the third straight game, Agua Caliente displayed resilience as they fought back late in the game despite facing a double-digit deficit. After Daniel Dixon's three-pointer gave Northern Arizona a 101-88 lead, their largest margin of the night, with 55 seconds left in the third quarter, Motley and fellow two-way player Angel Delgado led the Clippers' charge. The two big-men combined for 14 points and nine rebounds in the closing quarter, including a three-pointer by Motley at the 1:17 mark and an offensive rebound and putback by Delgado to tie the game at 117 with 47 seconds left.
Motley scored a game-high 29 points to go along with 15 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. Delgado finished with 19 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for his third double-double this year.
The Clippers return to Southern California on Tuesday, Nov. 20, to face the cross-town rival South Bay Lakers. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo.
