Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Texas Legends 93-82 Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the Kaiser Permanente Arena. The victory extends the Warriors' current win streak to eight games, which is tied for the longest in the NBA D-League this season. With seven games left in the regular season, Santa Cruz has clinched a playoff berth and sits within striking distance of the Bakersfield Jam, the top team in the league.
The Warriors were led by Jeremy Tyler's double-double of 18 points, all scored in the second half, and a season-high and game-high 17 rebounds. Daniel Nwaelele added 17 points, including shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range. Hilton Armstrong chipped in with a double-double of his own, notching 14 points and 10 boards.
Texas was paced by Solomon Bozeman, who scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench. Fred House scored 16, and Dwayne Jones logged a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
There were five lead changes in the first half, which ended with the Warriors ahead 43-38. Texas used a 31-point third quarter to take back the lead, but a Jeremy Tyler jumper with 7:15 left in the final frame tied the game at 73. Tyler slammed home a dunk less than a minute later and Santa Cruz never relinquished the lead.
Santa Cruz shot 36.7% from the field compared to Texas' 35.1%. The Warriors won the rebound battle (55-52), had more assists (21-17) and committed fewer turnovers (23-19).
The Warriors will host the Idaho Stampede on Monday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, and fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM. During the game, the Santa Cruz Warriors will honor the community's public safety officials and there will be a special halftime ceremony remembering Sgt. Butch Baker and Det. Elizabeth Butler.
