
Skyforce Outlast Charge in Double OT

The Canton Charge overcame a 21-point fourth quarter deficit, but ultimately fell in double overtime to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, 117-11, in South Dakota on Saturday night. The loss drops Canton to 27-18 on the season, while Sioux Falls improves to 23-21.
The Charge pulled ahead 24-22 after the first quarter thanks in large part to eight points in six minutes off the bench from Travis Franklin. The Skyforce responded in the second quarter with a 15-3 run in the first 3:58 to go up 37-27. Sioux Falls ultimately outscored Canton 33-18 in the second quarter by hitting 12-of-20 shots from the field for 65% and took a 55-42 lead into the intermission.
The home team's lead never dipped below double-digits the entire third quarter and opened their advantage to 86-66 to begin the final period. Down 21 with 9:19 left in the game, the Charge began to chip away. Canton hit 17-of-31 shots and outscored Sioux Falls 29-8, including 11 from Kyle Gibson, to force the extra time.
Both teams traded baskets twice in the first overtime period and the scored stayed knotted at 105-105. The Skyforce were able to put the game away in the second overtime as they for to the three-throw line nine times and held Canton to 22% shooting from the floor in the game's final three minutes. The loss drops a three-game road winning streak for the Charge and evens the season series between the two teams at one win apiece.
Gibson finished with a team-high 24 points in 38 minutes, including 6-of-7 from three-point range and 21 points in the second half. Arinze Onuaku had his fourth double-double in his last five games and 17th of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes. Jorge Gutierrez scored 18 points with seven rebounds and three steals in 30 minutes off the bench. The Charge are now 0-4 in overtime games this season.
Demetris Nichols led all scorers with 32 points with nine rebounds in 45 minutes. Andre Barrett netted 16 points with nine rebounds, nine assists and three steals in 38 minutes. Mychel Thompson provided 21 points and three rebounds in 30 minutes of relief off the bench. Sioux Falls forced 25 Canton turnovers that resulted in 27 points. The Charge never lead by more than three points the entire game.
The Charge will end their road trip with a visit to the Springfield Armor on Wednesday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m.
