D-Fenders Toppled by Jam

EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders were toppled by the Bakersfield Jam in the first of a home-and-home set of games, dropping a 112-83 contest at Toyota Sports Center on Saturday night.

The D-Fenders started the game with a 10-3 run but finished the first quarter down 23-22 and fell behind 53-46 at halftime despite shooting 50 percent from the field and limiting the Jam to 44 percent shooting. Affected largely by turnovers in the first two quarters (14 turnovers), the D-Fenders slipped further behind by the end of the third frame after, down 79-67 heading in the fourth quarter. After an 18-0 run by the Jam to start the final quarter, the D-Fenders found themselves too far out of reach to mount a comeback.

Courtney Fortson paced the D-Fenders with 23 points and nine assists, Elijah Millsap tallied 18 points, and Zach Andrews contributed 12 points and five rebounds in the loss.

The Jam (31-13) was led by Jerel McNeal (21 points), Cam Tatum (17 points, 4 steals), Stephen Dennis (13 points, 3 steals), and Toronto Raptors assignee Quincy Acy (13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals). Additionally, James Nunnally pitched in 11 points in the victory for the Jam, which scored 42 points off of the D-Fenders' 29 total turnovers.

The D-Fenders and Jam (NBA Affiliate: Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors) will play again tomorrow afternoon at 4pm, capping off the home-and-home series.
