BAKERSFIELD, March 24, 2013 - The Bakersfield Jam (32-13) came back from 32 down to earn a 109-100 win over the Los Angeles D-Fenders (19-26) Sunday at the Dignity Health Event Center. Tremendous team effort and furious run was led by Jerel McNeal who posted 22 points, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, 11 assists and two steals.
It was a poor and ugly start for Bakersfield as they scored a season-low in a quarter 12 points and shot just 13 percent from the field to fall behind 28-12 after one quarter of play. The D-Fenders stretched their lead to 32 points in the second quarter, but the Jam caught a little momentum in the final minutes of the half and entered the half down 68-48. The final 24 minutes belonged to Bakersfield as the Jam dominated both ends of the court with continuously team effort and will power to seal an epic comeback. The Jam outscored Los Angeles 61-32 in the second half and held the D-Fenders to just 28 percent shooting from the floor.
Stephen Dennis scored 20 points off the bench for the Jam while James Nunnally posted 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Damion James tallied 13 points and eight rebounds and Adam Koch contributed 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
The D-Fenders were paced by Courtney Fortson who had a game-high 35 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Jerome Jordan scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Elijah Millsap recorded a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Bakersfield will play its next three games on the road, beginning Friday, March 29 when they take on the Idaho Stampede. Tip-off scheduled at 6:00 p.m. PST.
