Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Oklahoma City Blue on Thursday to improve to 29-13 on the season, notching a tenth straight win. Today's victory marks the longest winning streak in franchise history, beating the nine-game win streak which was achieved in the 2012-2013 inaugural season.
Santa Cruz was led by Mychel Thompson who had 28 and 8 rebounds. Ognjen Kuzmic recorded a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Darington Hobson also added 13 points in the historic victory over the Blue.
The Blue was paced by Frank Gaines who scored 22 points. Talib Zanna (10 points, 13 rebounds) and Maurice Sutton (16 points, 12 rebounds) notched double-doubles for Oklahoma City.
After a tightly-contested start to the first quarter, complete with five lead changes and seven ties, the Blue would increase their distance from Santa Cruz in the second period. The Blue's 15-0 run kept the Warriors scoreless in the second quarter until the 6-minute mark with Aaron Craft's driving jumpshot. The Warriors would respond with a 10-2 run of their own to cut the Oklahoma City lead to single digits, entering the break at a six-point deficit.
The Warriors and the Blue would both make runs of their own, but would stay neck and neck until the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Santa Cruz sealed the win with a 10-0 run to hand the Blue a back-to-back loss.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will travel to Frisco, Texas tomorrow to take on the Texas Legends at 5:30 p.m. PST.
