BayHawks Grab Fourth Straight Win, Defeat Knicks
March 13, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Friday, March 13, 2015 - The Erie BayHawks (19-22) closed the game versus the visiting Westchester Knicks (10-31) on a 9-2 run to win 106-98, grabbing their fourth straight victory, their longest winning streak of the season. Peyton Siva scored a game high 21 points, marking the fourth straight game where he's scored 20 or more.
The BayHawks opened up the game on a 10-2 run capped off by Austin Daye's thunderous jam. The Knicks were able to take the lead, led by center Jordan Bachynski's seven early points. This marked Westchester's first lead in the last five quarters versus the BayHawks as Erie led the entire game in the previous matchup between the two teams on February 18.
A 10-0 run between the seven and four minute mark of the second quarter gave Erie their largest lead of the game at ten. The Knicks did not hit a three-point shot in the first half (0-5) as they trailed by six heading into the second half.
Joe Crawford's three early in the third quarter extended Erie's lead to ten yet again. The Knicks would respond by using a 20-10 run to tie the game and eventually took the lead after Darnell Jackson's field goal. The two teams exchanged baskets for the first minutes of the final frame until Peyton Siva's three gave Erie their first lead of the quarter. A quick 5-0 Erie run minutes later saw the BayHawks up by five with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
The BayHawks were able to close the game on a 9-2 run to win 106-98 by taking advantage of uncontested layups capitalized by John Boahnnon and by forcing key turnovers on the defensive end. Erie has won the previous two games against the Knicks, both at home, after dropping the first three games of the season series, all coming at Westchester. Both teams shot 47% from the field, but the difference in the game was Westchester not being able to hit a three-pointer the entire game (0-9), the first time any Erie opponent this season came up empty from beyond the arc.
Peyton Siva tallied 21 tonight while dishing six assists. Daye snagged 17 points, his seventh double-digit game in his ten appearances with Erie, while Drew Crawford and Bohannon each grabbed 15 points. Westchester was led by Jackson's 20 points and 10 rebounds off the bench followed by Doron Lamb's 17.
The BayHawks will now travel to Maine on Sunday for a 5:00 PM matchup after hosting five consecutive games. Erie then travels to Delaware to take on divisional foe 87ers for just the third time this season.
