March 13, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release
The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, used their strong second quarter performance to pull off the decisive 124-93 win over the Iowa Charge (21-19). The Red Claws (27-13) snap a two game losing streak with tonight's win and have now tied a team record 27th overall win on the season.
Thanks to an all-around team performance, including the bench, the Red Claws were able to overcome the deficit at the end of the first quarter. Costly turnovers in the first quarter led four of the Energy's points in the quarter. With the first quarter being led by Iowa's Willie Reed (26 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist) and Chris Allen (19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists), the Red Claws had to find their momentum in the second quarter. As the first quarter came to a close, Romero Osby (28 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) found his own rebound and put back the slam which awoke the Red Claws bench. If that wasn't enough momentum to head into the locker room at the half, Davion Berry (13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) rushed the ball up with court with 0:04 seconds on the clock. As time expired, Berry chucked a deep three from behind the arc with found the back of the net at the buzzer.
The three's came flying in the second quarter as Maine shot an impressive 7/10 from behind the arc. Iowa attempted five of their own three pointers, but wasn't able to capitalize on any of the chances. Omari Johnson (26 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) on the other hand, was hot from behind the arc going 2/2 from downtown in the second quarter. Johnson would add another four field goals to his total in the quarter giving the Red Claws a 63-42 lead heading into the half.
Romero Osby came out of the locker on a mission in the second half. Osby would hit back-to-back three's in the third along with five rebounds in the fourth, to contribute his efforts on both ends of the court. Along with Osby, Tim Frazier (11 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists), Omari Johnson, Davion Berry, and Jason Calliste (13 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists) shot double digits on the night. Frazier would come one assist shy of his fifth triple double on the season.
With the win tonight, the Red Claws continue their Eastern Conference dominance heading into the last ten games of the season. Maine will enjoy a day off between games before they return to the Portland Expo Sunday afternoon for a 1pm tip off against the Erie Bayhawks.
