Greenville Drive News Release
Savannah, GA - Thanks to a three hour, 21 minute game preceded by an hour and 14 minute weather delay, Friday night was a long one in Savannah. It probably felt even longer for the Greenville Drive (18-37, 52-72), as they were done in all night by big innings as the Savannah Sand Gnats (35-20, 79-42) rolled to a 16-4 win.
The Sand Gnats tagged Drive starter Trey Ball (3-10) for nine runs in two innings, but only four were earned. Jonathan Leroux started things off with a bang by smacking a first-inning grand slam, and a Drive error in the second led to five unearned runs, including a two-run homer by Victor Cruzado.
The score got all the way up to 16-0 after a four-run fourth and a three-run fifth against Sergio Gomez. Jeff Glenn and Yeixon Ruiz delivered RBI hits in the fourth, and Jorge Rivero's two-run homer highlighted the fifth.
The Drive scored three times in the sixth to get on the board against Ricky Knapp (7-6), as Tzu-Wei Lin lined a two-run double and Wendell Rijo followed with an RBI double of his own.
Cole Sturgeon capped the scoring with a solo homer in the eighth inning, his second homer of the year. He went 2-4 for Greenville, while Lin, Franklin Guzman and Sam Travis all added two hits apiece.
Glenn went 4-5 to lead the way for Savannah, while Cruzado had three hits and Leroux and Ruiz chipped in with two hits each.
RH Jamie Callahan (3-11, 6.57) will take the mound for the Drive on Saturday as they look to get back in the win column. LH Alex Panteliodis (4-3, 3.90) will deliver the first pitch for the Sand Gnats at 6:05.
