Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators scored all six runs with two outs, using timely hits to squash the Grasshoppers on Friday night at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro.

Christian Stringer launched a 2-run home run (8) with two outs in the sixth inning for a 6-2 lead. He finished the night 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and a run scored while Eddy Alvarez continued his hot start since joining the Intimidators from the Rookie-level Arizona White Sox on Monday. The Olympic speed-skating silver medalist reached base safely in his first three plate appearances, finishing the night 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.

Dylan Chavez opened with two scoreless relief innings before getting into trouble in the seventh. He walked two batters, allowed a base hit, and threw a wild pitch that brought in a run, but managed to keep the Grasshoppers at bay long enough for the Intimidators offense to go to work. Chavez (4-4) finished the night after 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits with two walks and a strikeout while earning the win.

Tyler Barnette retired the final seven Greensboro batters of the game of the save (1). Greensboro starter Ryan Wertenberger (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits over 4.0 innings.

The Intimidators pulled ahead in the third inning when Alvarez, who led off with a base hit, scored on a 2-out single by Jacob Morris. Morris later crossed the plate on a Greensboro error after a Jeremy Dowdy base-hit was misplayed in right field for a 3-1 lead.

After the Hoppers got a run back in the bottom of the third on a Joel Jiminez 2-out single, Kannapolis returned fire in the top of the fourth. Stringer's 2-out base hit plated Mike Danner for a 4-2 lead.

Down 1-0 in the second inning, Jeremy Dowdy led off with a base hit, and T.J. Williams came through with a 2-out game-tying single to score Dowdy.

The Hoppers struck in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on an Intimidators error that allowed Austin Dean to reach base. Brian Anderson's RBI-single drove in Dean for a 1-0 lead.

Starter Jordan Guerrero took no decision, working 4.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Intimidators continue this 4-game series in Greensboro with Game 3 on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at NewBridge Bank Park as LHP Andre Wheeler (2-3, 3.17) takes the mound for Kannapolis against Greensboro's RHP Cody Crabaugh (4-2, 4.60). The Intimidators return to Kannapolis on Tuesday for a 3-game series against the Asheville Tourists (Colorado Rockies).
