Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Hickory, NC - The Delmarva Shorebirds pitched their way to a second straight win over the Hickory Crawdads with a 5-2 final score on Friday night. Delmarva (62-62) evened their overall record with another impressive showing from a Shorebirds' starter.
Steven Brault was spectacular for Delmarva on the heels of a 1-0 shutout on Thursday night. The night before, Janser Severino tossed six scoreless innings in the start for Delmarva. Brault matched that with six shutout frames while allowing just three hits and zero walks.
The Shorebirds established a 4-0 lead in support of Brault. Creede Simpson scored on a wild pitch by Anyelo Leclerc in the fourth inning. Josh Hart smashed a solo blast in the fifth inning, his first home run of his professional career. Delmarva scored twice in the sixth inning with an RBI single by Austin Wynns, and Gregory Lorenzo beating out a double play ball to allow another run to score.
Derrick Bleeker made his Shorebirds' debut in the seventh inning. Bleeker surrendered a two-run double to Jairo Beras, but he got a line drive double play to end the frame. The reliever then pitched a perfect eighth inning to bounce back and preserve the lead.
Delmarva added an insurance run in the eighth inning. Drew Dosch doubled to the right-center gap for his 150th base hit of the season, tying the Shorebirds' record for most hits in a season, held by current manager Ryan Minor from his 1997 season. Dosch later scored on an RBI single by Creede Simpson.
Garrett Cortright stranded the bases loaded in the ninth inning to lock up his first save in the 5-2 win. Steven Brault earned his team-high ninth win of the year, now 9-8. Anyelo Leclerc took the loss for Hickory.
The Shorebirds will go for three in a row in Hickory on Saturday evening. Left-hander Bennett Parry (1-1, 2.28) will start for Delmarva against the Crawdads' righty Tyler Smith (6-4, 3.87). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm at L. P. Frans Stadium.
