Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Lincoln Saltdogs earned their first series win of the second half on Thursday, beating the Sioux City Explorers 7-2. Lincoln took two out of three in the series, and improved to 3-6 on the second half of the season.
Jarrett Gardner (7-4) had another strong outing for Lincoln, allowing just two runs on five hits over 7.2 innings of work. He struck out six and walked three, earning his first win as a starter since his no-hitter on June 25. Gardner did earn a win in relief earlier this month. Daryl Arreola struck out two over a perfect 1.1 innings to earn his second save.
Offensively, the Saltdogs were led by Pichi Balet, who drove in the first run of the game as part of a two-run first inning. Shea McFeely added an RBI single in the third, and Balet came back to record a two-run single in the fourth as Lincoln scored the first five runs of the ballgame. Sioux City got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Deacon Burns threw out a runner at the plate to keep the Explorers from getting closer. The X's chased Gardner with a run in the bottom of the eighth, but Brandon Jones and Josh Burrus each hit RBI singles in the ninth to set the final margin.
Balet ended the night 3-for-5 with three RBI. Burrus and McFeely each had two hits and an RBI apiece, while Albenis Machado and Shawn McGill each scored two runs.
The Saltdogs head home to host Wichita in game one of a three-game series Friday night at 7:05. Righty Brian Campbell will make the start for Lincoln.
