Wichita Wingnuts News Release
Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts swept a doubleheader from the Sioux Falls Canaries in front of a sold out crowd of 7,134 fans on Thursday night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
Sioux Falls opened the scoring in the first inning of game one on a sacrifice fly by Cory Harris, but left the bases loaded. Wichita responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Greg Porter and took the lead for good on a two-run double by Nick Blasi in the second.
Trailing 3-2 in the last inning, Cody Haerther singled, but Joe Anthonsen was thrown out at home by right fielder Stephen Pearson to preserve the victory for starter Derek Blacksher. Blacksher pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits, to move his record to 6-2. Joe D'Allesandro recorded his fourth save of the season.
In the nightcap it was all Brad Davis, who pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout. Davis allowed just one walk, struck out five and faced the minimum in five of seven innings pitched. The Wingnuts scored a single run in the second inning and then blew it open with a five-run fifth. Wichita batted around in the inning, getting an RBI single from Nick Blasi, an RBI walk by Pearson and a two-run double by Michael Thompson. Thompson knocked in three runs in game two, while Josh Horn went 3-4.
The Wingnuts - who swept the four-game series - travel to Lincoln on Friday where they will play the Saltdogs. Wichita will return home next Friday to open another series with Sioux Falls. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
