Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City.....Although the Explorers lost to Lincoln Thursday 7-2, the X's remains in first place in the American Association North as St. Paul also lost on Thursday at Fort Worth.

Instead of a two-team race in the North, only two games separate all five teams starting play Friday.

On Thursday, Lincoln took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off starter and losing pitcher Tyler Meigs. The Saltdogs added a run in the third and two more in the fourth to lead 5-0 before the Explorers could score.

Dustin Jones had a bases loaded single in the bottom of the fourth that scored James Boone, but a second runner, Jason Colson was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning.

The Explorers added a second run in the eighth inning on a RBI single by Adam Hale that cut the Lincoln lead to 5-2. However, Lincoln scored two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to seal the victory and take two of three from the Explorers.

Sioux City will open a three-game series Friday at Sioux Falls before the American Association all-star break.
