St. Paul Saints News Release

FORT WORTH, TX (July 16, 2009) - The St. Paul Saints had Fort Worth Cats starter Ryan Trytten on the ropes, but couldn't deliver the knock out blow and lost 5-3 on Thursday night at LaGrave Field.

The Cats jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Saints All-Star Brandon Kintzler as Pat O'Sullivan led off with an infield single to third. Ryan Patterson singled him to second and after Kelley Gulledge's grounder moved the runners up, Isa Garcia knocked them in with a double to make it 2-0. Brian Fryer and Cameron Blair each added RBI doubles to give the Cats a 4-0 lead.

The Saints looked like they were primed to make some noise in the third when Steve Butler led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and with one out Alex Fonseca walked. Jason Cooper knocked home Steve Butler with a single to make it 4-1. The Saints loaded the bases when Jake Butler walked, but Brent Krause struck out and Andrew Schmiesing fouled out to end the inning.

In the fifth the Saints once again made some noise as Josh Alley led off with a double to right. Cooper followed with a walk and with one out Krause walked to load the bases. Andrew Schmiesing's fielders choice plated a run and Jeff Eure added an RBI single to make it 4-3. Trytten was pulled and with runners at the corners and two outs reliever Nat Harries got Scott Knazek to fly out to right.

The Saints wouldn't threaten much from there as the Cats tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Patterson. Kintzler went 6.0 innings allowing a season high five runs on 11 hits while walking one and striking out seven.

The Saints got a great relief performance from Kyle Foster who hurled 2.0 perfect innings while striking out four.

The Saints head to Jim Spooner Field at Pelican Park to take on the Pensacola Pelicans on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. in game one of a three game series. The Saints send RHP Mark Moriarty (1-2, 4.05) to the mound against Pelicans LHP Randall Beam (5-5, 4.50). The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
