St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (July 16, 2009) - Sports franchises have given away souvenir cups for many years and the St. Paul Saints are joining in the fun July 27 and doing the same thing...with one small caveat. The souvenir cups they are giving away aren't made for drinking, but rather for protection.

On Monday, July 27, the first 2,500 fans (male and female) will receive a Saints souvenir cup. The Saints, not the fans, will be providing the support that night.

"We wanted to do a memorable giveaway that would help people in these tough times," said Saints President Mike Veeck. "We thought about a batting helmet, but clearly people haven't been using their heads for a while, so we figured this was the next best thing to help people defend their futures. We're going to find out if people see the world with a cup half full, or a cup half empty."

The cups are white and emblazoned with a blue Saints logo across the front. The cups are not ideal for the serving of cold or hot beverages. In fact, the ballclub strongly discourages fans from pouring liquid into these cups, particularly hot beverages.

"This year's been a kick in the shorts for many hard-working Americans," said Veeck. "This is the least we could do."

The Saints take on the Sioux Falls Canaries on July 27 and tickets may be purchased in person at the Saints ticket office, by calling 651-644-6659 or visiting saintsbaseball.
