Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs earned a three-game sweep over Wichita on Sunday, beating the Wingnuts 6-3 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 6-6 on the second half of the season.

For the third straight night, the Saltdogs turned the tide of the game in the sixth inning. Trailing 3-1, Pichi Balet led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, taking second base on a throwing error. Shawn McGill drove Balet home with an RBI double, and one out later, Brandon Jones hit a two-run home run to left-center, giving Lincoln a 4-3 lead. The Dogs extended the lead in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Phil Hawke, and a wild pitch that scored Albenis Machado from third.

The sixth-inning rally made a winner out of Lincoln starter Zac Cline (5-2), who allowed three runs on six hits over his six innings of work. Wichita plated a pair of runs in the top of the second to take the early lead, but Machado hit an RBI double in the fifth to cut the Wingnuts' lead to 2-1. Wichita extended the lead back to two on Kelly Hunt's solo home run in the top of the sixth before Lincoln's game-winning rally.

Machado and Balet each finished with a pair of hits for Lincoln, who had eight hits overall. On the mound, Adam Daniels pitched two perfect innings of relief, and Chris Thompson worked the ninth for his league-best 19th save. The Saltdogs enter the All-Star break just one game out of first place in the North Division of the American Association.

The Saltdogs have the next three days off for the All-Star break, before returning to action Thursday night in St. Paul. Righty Jim Paduch will make the start that night for Lincoln.
