
Explorers Shutout Canaries

Sioux Falls, SD.....Three Explorer pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout Sunday in a 4-0 win at Sioux Falls Stadium over the Canairies.
Ty Martoz started and pitched five innings and allowed the three hits. He was followed by Mike Phelps who pitched three innings to record the victory. Brett Reid pitched the ninth and retired Sioux Falls in order.
It was the third shutout of the season for the Explorers who are in first place in the American Association North at the All-Star break.
The contest was scoreless until the seventh inning when the X's scored a run on an error by Sioux Falls second baseman Joe Anthonsen that gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead.
The Explorers took advantage of another Sioux Falls error in the eighth inning and scored three more runs.
With the shutout, the Canaries did not have a base runner reach third base in the contest.
The Explorers will have the next three days off for the All-Star break and will resume play Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park against Pensacola. Game time Thursday will be 7:05.
