Sioux Falls defeats Explorers

Sioux Falls, SD.....Sioux Falls scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday to defeat the Sioux City Explorers 9-8.

A two-out run scoring single by Cory Harris provided the winning tally for the Canaries in the win over the Explorers. Harris had been hitless in the series before the hit to left center that scored Joe Anthonsen from second base. The winning hit came off Explorers closer Brett Reid, who suffered his first loss of the year.

Even though the Explorers lost, they remain in first place in the second half of the American Association North race.

Sioux Falls had taken a 5-0 lead in the second inning off Explorers starter Nick Singleton as the Canaries sent ten batters to the plate. However, the X's came back with three runs in the top of the third inning highlighted by a two-run triple by Justin Nelson.

The two teams battled back and forth with the Explorers taking an 8-7 lead in the eighth inning on RBI's by Luis Figueroa and Jason Colson. In the bottom of the eighth Sioux Falls came back and tied the game at 8-8 on a two-out single by Ken Lup. That set up the winning rally in the bottom of the ninth for the Canaires.

With the series tied at a game apiece, the final game of the three-game series will be played Sunday starting at 2:05.
