Saints Swept in Double Header, Blanked in Game 2, 3-0

QUEBEC, QC (June 1, 2013) - Gym owner by day, dominant pitcher by night. The St. Paul Saints ran into one of the better pitchers in the Can-Am League as Karl Gelinas blanked them in game two of the double header, losing 3-0 on Saturday night at Stade Municipal de Quebec.

Gelinas, who owns a gym in Quebec and couldn't pitch game one of the double header because he didn't get off of work in time, instead started game two. It didn't matter as he flexed his pitching muscle and scattered nine hits en route to his third career complete game shutout. The Saints had three decent chances to score against him. In the first Dan Kaczrowski singled with one out. Brad Boyer singled to right as Kazcrowski took second. Craig Brazell, however, grounded into an inning ending double play.

In the second, with Joey Becker at first and two outs, Jordan Tripp doubled to right moving Becker to third. Dwight Childs struck out to end the inning leaving the two runners stranded in scoring position.

In the fourth, with the Saints trailing 1-0, Jose Hernandez singled with one out. With two outs Jordan Tripp doubled off the wall in center, but Hernandez was thrown out at the plate trying to score ending the threat and the inning. Jordan finished the game 3-3 with two doubles.

Les Capitales got all the runs they would need in the second when Royce Consigli hit a solo homer to right, his fourth of the season, giving les Capitales a 1-0 lead.

The long ball plagued Saints starter George Jensen again in the fifth when Maxime Lefevre led off the inning with a solo shot to right, his second of the season, to make it 2-0. Jensen then hit Dany Deschamps, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jeff Helps. Jonathan Malo singled Deschamps to third and a sacrifice fly from Sebastian Boucher scored Deschamps for the final run of the game. Jensen was solid in 5.0 innings of work allowing three runs on four hits while walking one.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. eastern. The Saints send RHP Wes Roemer (2-1, 4.11) to the mound against les Capitales RHP Jeff Duda (1-0, 3.60). The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
