EL PASO, Texas - Morgan Coombs threw six shutout innings in an emergency start as the RailCats blanked El Paso 5-0 on Saturday night. The first-place RailCats improved to 10-5 and remain undefeated in series this season with four wins and one split.

Coombs made the spot start in place of Stephen Hiscock, who was scratched with right shoulder inflammation just hours prior to the game. Coombs (1-0) was outstanding in six shutout innings, scattering four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Adam Klein reached on an error by shortstop Maikol Gonzalez to lead off the game for the RailCats. He moved to second on a groundout by Cristian Guerrero and scored on a two-out RBI single by Craig Maddox to put the RailCats in front 1-0.

Gary's outfielders kept the shutout going with assists to end both the sixth and seventh innings. With the RailCats clinging to a 1-0 lead in the sixth, Brian Joynt singled to left. Oscar Mesa tried to score from second to tie the game, but Klein fired a laser to home plate on the fly and Maddox tagged out Mesa to end the inning. In the seventh, Moises Montero hit a fly ball to right with one out that was caught by Mike Massaro. Jonathan Cisneros tagged up and tried to score from third but was tagged out to end the inning after crashing into Maddox, who hung on to the ball.

David Casillas (1-2) gave up an unearned run in six innings and held the RailCats to three hits in the loss. He matched a career high with eight strikeouts.

The RailCats piled on in the seventh inning against Diablos reliever Chandler Barnard. Maddox doubled and then Steve Liddle singled. Brian Kolb tried to bunt to score Maddox, but he was thrown out at home. Drew Martinez stepped up and lined an RBI single to left. Zac Mitchell followed with a run-scoring double to left-center and on the next pitch, Chase Tucker ripped a two-run single to right to extend the lead to 5-0.

Taylor Sewitt tossed two scoreless innings in relief and Ian Durham pitched the ninth to complete the shutout. The 'Cats have won three in a row and have shutout wins in two of the last three games. RailCats starters have allowed one run in the last three games, covering 21 innings.

Gary will go for the sweep on Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. Central Time. Will Krout (1-1, 6.20) will go for the RailCats against right-hander Luis Chirinos (0-1, 4.85).
