Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped game one of a six-game homestand Tuesday night, falling to St. Paul 4-1. The loss drops Lincoln back under the .500 mark at 11-12.
St. Paul starter Luis Villareal (3-1) dominated Lincoln's hitters for most of the night, allowing just one run on four hits in seven innings of work. The Saltdogs didn't get a hit until the fourth inning, and were held to their lowest run total of the season.
Lincoln starter Ryan Trytten (1-2) matched Villereal through the first three innings, but Marcel Longmire greeted him in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to make the score 1-0. The Saints added a second run in the inning on a double and an error, then extended the advantage to 4-0 in the fifth when Longmire blasted a two-run homer, his second bomb of the night.
The Saltdogs finally touched Villareal for a run in the sixth. Dustin Yount hit a one-out double, and Eduardo Rios followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 4-1. Rios was eventually stranded at third base, however, and the Dogs never mounted another serious threat.
Shawn McGill was the only Lincoln batter to record a two-hit night, as the Saltdogs were held to just six hits overall. Rios, the reigning American Association Batter of the Week, did pick up his 15th RBI. On the mound, Trytten allowed four runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings, while Johnny Thompson and Vince Davis combined for 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
The Saltdogs and Saints play game two of their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05. Josh Kauten is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln, while Justin Lord is expected to make the start for St. Paul.
