Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts made a handful of roster moves as they begin a six-game road trip tonight at 7:05 p.m. with the Sioux Falls Canaries.

The Wingnuts traded infielder Derek Schermerhorn to the Sioux City Explorers in exchange for outfielder/designated hitter Geoff Wagner. Wagner played just five games with the Explorers, picking up his first hit last night, but hit .304 last season with 10 home runs for St. George of the Gold Coast League. Schermerhorn was hitting .186 with the Wingnuts.

The Wingnuts also released pitcher Alejandro Martinez today and added infielder Carter McQuigg. McQuigg, who played college baseball at Oral Roberts, finished last season with the American Association's St. Joe Blacksnakes. Both Wagner and McQuigg will be in the Wingnuts lineup tonight.

The Wingnuts, 15-10 and two games behind the first place St. Paul Saints, will return home next Tuesday to begin a six-game homestand with the Lincoln Saltdogs and St. Paul. For tickets or more information, please call the Wingnuts at (316) 264-4625.
