Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

DURHAM, NC - Lincoln Saltdogs INF Eduardo Rios and Sioux Falls Canaries LHP Kris Regas were named by PA-Sportsticker, the American Association's official statistician, as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.

Rios batted .524 in five games this past week with two home runs, six RBI and 11 hits. He also plated two runs, hit three doubles and slugged .952. In Sunday's game versus the Sioux Falls Canaries, Rios went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, two runs scored and four runs driven in. On the season, the Venezuelan native is hitting .337 with four home runs, 14 RBI and seven doubles.

The veteran infielder was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in August of 1991. He played five seasons in the Dodgers organization from 1992-1996. Rios also played in the Arizona Diamondbacks system as well as with independent league teams of Saskatoon, Thunder Bay and Quebec. He recently has been with the Aguascalientes of the Mexican League.

Regas becomes the third Sioux Falls player to achieve Player of the Week honors this season (Patrick Reilly and Pat Mahomes). The Canaries closer made three appearances this past week allowing only two hits while striking out one and collecting three saves. The 28-year-old currently is tied for the league lead in saves with Dustin Cameron of the Pensacola Pelicans and Byron Embry of the Wichita Wingnuts.

The resident of Bourbonnais, IL has played his now entire seven year career in the independent leagues. He pitched four seasons in the Frontier League with Cook County, Windy City and Richmond, one season with Gary of the Northern League and currently the last two years with Sioux Falls.
