Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - Travis Kane gave the Sioux Falls Canaries (14-10) a top-notch pitching performance on the team's way to a 5-1 win over the Wichita Wingnuts (15-11) on Tuesday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Kane allowed his only run of the game in the first inning. Kevin Hooper tripled and scored on a groundout by Blake Gailen to give Wichita an early 1-0 lead.

Brad Davis was a formidable foe for the Canaries on Wednesday. Five days after pitching a one-run, three-hit complete game to beat the Canaries, Davis kept the Canaries bats quiet the first two times through the order. However, the Birds cracked him in the sixth inning. Kennard Bibbs got aboard on a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Beau Torbert. Will Smith singled to score Bibbs and the Canaries had manufactured a run to tie the game, 1-1.

In the seventh, the Birds went ahead. Ben Van Iderstine doubled and scored on a two-out double by Tim Hutting to give the Canaries a 2-1 lead.

Sioux Falls added three more insurance runs in the eighth inning when Josh Patton doubled home Smith, and Patrick Reilly hit his fifth home run of the year. Reilly's home run sealed the 5-1 final.

Kane (2-1) pitched 8.2 innings allowing just one run on four hits to pick up his second win of the season. Brad Davis (3-3) suffered the loss for Wichita. Kris Regas struck out Chris Colteon for the final out of the game to notch his eight save of the year.

The Canaries and Wingnuts will continue the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Pat Mahomes will start for the Canaries, and the club will be celebrating "Cagey's Super Sweet 16 Birthday Party" presented by Dakota Costume
