St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (August 18, 2010) - Matt Meyer did everything asked of him and then some for the St. Paul Saints, including not giving up a run in 21.1 innings pitched, and the Los Angeles Angels took notice as Meyer became the 98th Saints player since the franchise began in 1993 to be signed by a Major League organization.

The 25-year-old Meyer, who hails from Rochester, MN, was 3-0 with a 0.00 and nine saves in 21.1 innings pitched, setting the consecutive scoreless innings streak by a Saints pitcher surpassing Kyle Foster's 2008 record of 20.0 scoreless innings. In 18 games he allowed just six hits, walked eight while striking out an astounding 42 as opponents hit a microscopic .082 against him. Meyer was named the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 9-15 as he went 2-0 with two saves in 6.1 innings pitched. He surrendered just one hit while walking three and striking out 12.

The Saints signed Meyer as a free agent on June 25 after being released by the St .Louis Cardinals organization. This season at Double-A Springfield he was 0-2 with a 6.64 ERA in 21 games. In 20.1 innings pitched he walked 14 and struck out 20 while opponents hit .294 against him.

Meyer was selected in the 15th round of the June Amateur Draft by the Cleveland Indians in 2006 out of Boston College. He is a graduate of Mayo High School in Rochester.

The Saints have had three players since the end of the 2009 season signed by Major League organizations. Outfielders Anthony Norman, signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Drew Anderson, signed by the Milwaukee Brewers, were the other two.

With the departure of Meyer the Saints roster currently stands at 21 players, 12 position players and nine pitchers.
