Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
Grand Prairie, TX. Daniel Berg and Antoin Gray hit home runs and Chris Martin pitched six strong innings in a starting role to help the Grand Prairie AirHogs to a 5-2 victory over the El Paso Diablos Wednesday night at QuikTrip Park.
Grand Prairie evened the three-game series with the win and has won seven out of the last eight games against the Diablos.
Martin (3-0) went six innings scattering six hits and allowing two runs - both earned. He walked two and struck out nine. Dan Griffin pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the save.
Berg and Gray, meanwhile, keyed a 12-hit attack with home runs. Berg belted a two-run shot in the third and Gray a solo homer to highlight a three-run fifth.
In the third, the AirHogs broke the scoreless tie when Berg hit a two-run home run to left off El Paso starter William Buzhardt. It was Berg's second home run with the AirHogs and it scored Robert Perry, who had singled moments earlier.
The AirHogs threatened again in the fourth with two runners on and one out but could not score. The Diablos then tied it in the top of the fifth on RBI singles by Adam Deleo and Jeff Vincent.
Deleo's hit scored Jonathon Reynosa, who had walked and gone to second on Jeff Hulett's bunt single. Hulett later scored on Vincent's hit.
The tie was short-lived as Gray cranked a solo homer to left off Buzhardt to put the AirHogs back in front, 3-2. It was Gray's fourth home run as an AirHog.
David Espinosa followed Gray's home run with a walk and went to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run by Greg Porter. Espinosa then scored on a ground out by Ernie Banks to make it 4-2.
With Porter still at second, Michael Hollimon lined a single up the middle easily scoring Porter to give the AirHogs a three-run cushion at the time.
The third game of the three-game series is Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at QuikTrip Park. Tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased in-person at the QuikTrip Park Box Office, located at 1600 Lone Star Parkway, Grand Prairie, TX 75050, by calling 972.504.9383 or visiting www.airhogsbaseball.com.
