El Paso Diablos News Release

Grand Prairie was able to even up their series with El Paso by winning 5-2 at QuickTrip Park on Wednesday night. Their pitching led the way as the Diablos scored all of their runs in just one inning, were held to just eight hits and struck out 15 times. Grand Prairie has now won seven out of the last eight games the two teams have played.

Grand Prairie, for the fourth straight game against El Paso, took the first lead of the game when Daniel Berg broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a two run home run. The game was tied in the fifth inning when Adam Deleo and Jeff Vincent both had run scoring singles. The AirHogs didn't wait long to take the lead back scoring three the next half inning and that was enough to win the game. Antoin Gray brought in the go ahead run on a home run and they added two more runs later in the inning.

William Buzhardt, who racked up a lot of strike outs, also allowed a lot of hits, and built a big pitch count. He did not make it out of the fifth inning allowing five runs on ten hits while striking out seven. Buzhardt (2-4) had walked 13 over his previous two starts but walked just one in this start. His seven strike outs matches his season high. Chris Martin (4-0) pitched six innings and picked up his fourth win against El Paso this season. He allowed just two runs and for the second straight start struck out nine Diablo batters. Chris Griffin picked up his first save of the season by pitching the last three innings. He allowed just two hits while striking out six.

El Paso did very little offensively. They were held to just eight hits and struck out a season high 15 times. They had two base runners on at the same time in only one inning, and had just two bases runners over the last three innings. Arnoldo Ponce went 2-4 with a triple and was the only Diablos' hitter with a multi-hit game. It extends Ponce's current hitting streak to 11 straight games. Jonathan Reynoso went only 1-2 with a double, but he also walked twice, stole a base and started the Diablos only inning where they scored runs.

The rubber game of the series and the final game of the season between the two teams will be on Thursday night. Jesse Estrada (0-1, 9.95) will make his third start of the season against Greg Krause (3-5, 4.48). Game time is set for 6:05.
