Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped two games out of three at home to Shreveport-Bossier this week, losing 5-2 on Wednesday. Lincoln falls to 46-41 on the season, 17-22 in the second half.
With the game tied at one after three innings, the Captains turned things in their favor with four runs in the top of the fourth. Lincoln starter John James (4-2) retired the first man in the frame, but then allowed a double, a walk, a wild pitch, a two-run single and a two-run home run.
The Saltdogs, meanwhile, couldn't take advantage of their opportunities against Captains starter Ryan DiPietro (8-3). Lincoln tied the game at one in the third inning on a solo home run by Albenis Machado, but could do nothing with a pair of walks in the first, a leadoff double in the fourth and a pair of one-out singles in the sixth. Gavin Dickey hit an RBI single off of DiPietro in the seventh, but the 'Dogs could get no closer the rest of the night.
Machado went 1-for-3 with his fourth home run on the night and scored both of Lincoln's runs. Juan Richardson, Argelis Nunez and Roberto Alvarez all had two-hit nights for the Saltdogs. On the mound, Tycen PoVey, Brendon Smith and Adam Daniels combined to toss 5.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits.
After an off-day Thursday, Lincoln heads to St. Paul for a three-game series that begins Friday night at 7:05. Right-hander Angel Castro is scheduled to take the mound for the Saltdogs.
