
Saints Have All The Wright Stuff in 7-3 Win

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints came through with a 7-3 victory Sunday over the Sioux City Explorers to avoid the sweep and break a six game losing streak at home before a crowd of 4,892 at Midway Stadium.
The Saints faced Explorers pitcher Kyle Wright, who came into the game leading the American Association in home runs allowed, and the Saints would strike right out of the gate. Adam Frost led off the game with a solo home run to left field, his fourth of the year, to give the Saints an early 1-0 lead. The hit extended Frost's hitting streak to 13.
The Explorers, however, would respond with a three spot in the top of the second as TJ Bohn, Brett Flowers, Ryan Priddy, and Brian Bistagne would hit consecutive singles The latter two scored a run and an RBI fielder's choice by Dustin Jones gave the Explorers a 3-1 lead.
The Saints would respond immediately in the bottom half of the second as Richard Mercado led off the inning with a double. Mercado then advanced to third on Jason Cooper's fly out to left and scored on Argelis Nunez' RBI single pulling the Saints to within one, 3-2.
After a scoreless third, the Saints would put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth as Ronnie Bourquin led off the inning with a double and then scored on Argelis Nunez' two-run home run, his first as a Saint and third RBI of the game, to give the Saints a 4-3 lead. After two consecutive strike outs, Adam Frost singled, then stole second base and Justin Snyder drew a walk. Ole Sheldon drove in Frost with an RBI single to left putting the Saints up 5-3. The Saints scored their final runs of the day as Jason Cooper doubled to right to score Snyder and Sheldon putting the Saints up four 7-3. Cooper finished the day 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Donald Brandt was solid for the Saints despite the three-run second inning. Brandt pitched a strong 7.0 innings allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five to improve to 7-2 on the year. Wright took the loss for the Explorers falling to 3-6 pitching only 3.2 innings allowing six runs on eight hits allowing one walk while striking out five.
The win by the Saints snaps their three game losing streak and six game losing streak at home.
The Saints continue their homestand with a three game series against the Kansas City T-Bones starting Monday night at Midway Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as Saints LHP Alberto Rolon (6-2, 4.32 ERA) will go against T-Bones RHP TJ Large (3-5, 7.22 ERA). Make sure to bring a roll of toilet paper to the ballpark for the Life Before Toilet Paper Drive at Midway Stadium. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330 AM.
