Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
AMARILLO, Texas -- The last time that Ryan Mitchell and Josh Rainwater faced off, Rainwater fell one out shy of a complete game shutout as his Grand Prairie AirHogs beat Mitchell's Amarillo Sox 14-2. Sunday night it was a different story, as Mitchell threw the complete game to help the Sox sweep the AirHogs with a 5-2 win at Sox Stadium.
Rainwater (10-4) allowed a leadoff double to Fehlandt Lentini and an RBI single by Adam De La Garza to start his outing, but then cruised through the next 12 outs relatively smoothly. Things fell apart in the fifth though, when the Sox (32-35) put together a four-run, five-hit rally to take the lead for good.
Grand Prairie's starter did not give up another baserunner after Kevin Butler's RBI double, retiring the last seven men he faced, while Cody Railsback worked a hitless, scoreless eighth, but Grand Prairie's offense could not come back.
The AirHogs (42-24) tied the game in the second inning on Jake Taylor's sacrifice fly, but they could not muster much of anything else against Mitchell (4-4). The righty struck out X and allowed one extra-base hit, with just six singles, a double and a walk against him, as Grand Prairie got one in the ninth but nothing more.
Notes: Each team had a player ejected - Amarillo's Fehlandt Lentini by home plate umpire Tony Senia after the bottom of the second and Grand Prairie's Guillermo Martinez after the top of the seventh....The Sox out-hit the AirHogs by three in the game after the two teams had identical hit totals in each of the first two games...The Sox starters went 23 innings in the three games and allowed six walks and eight runs, while the AirHogs starters went 21 innings and allowed four walks and 10 runs.
The AirHogs have Monday off before heading to Shreveport for a three-game series with the Shreveport-Bossier Captains, beginning Tuesday, July 26, at 7:05 p.m. The next home game at QuikTrip Park is Friday, July 29, against the Lincoln Saltdogs at 7:05 p.m. for the second QuikTrip Night of the year.
