Saints Blanked for First Time, Drop Game One of Double Header 3-0

SIOUX FALLS, SD (June 12, 2015) - The American Association now has the book on how to beat the St. Paul Saints. Sign pitcher Stephen Bougher. The righty was signed prior to game time and threw 6.0 shutout innings as the Saints lost 3-0, the first time they have been shutout this season, to the Sioux Falls Canaries in game one of a double header on Friday night.

Bougher, who pitched for the Gary SouthShore Railcats last season and allowed just two runs in 13.1 innings pitched against the Saints, was even better on Friday. The Saints managed just five hits, all singles, and got just two runners as far as second base. In the first Alonzo Harris led off the game with a single, stole second, but was left stranded.

In the fifth Angelo Songco led off with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice and advanced to third on a single by Steve Nikorak, but the Saints failed to get a run home. Bougher went 6.0 shutout innings allowing five hits while striking out five.

Saints starter Dustin Crenshaw, who faced the minimum six days ago against the Canaries and retired the final 22 hitters, retired the first six Canaries he faced on Friday. He ran into a jam in the third when Tyler Shover singled and advanced to second on a bunt single by RJ Perucki. Harrison Kain singled to right and Shover was waived around, but Mike Kvasnicka threw him out at the plate. After Jerome Pena was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Crenshaw got Jason Repko to strike out and Brian Humphries to ground out to second to end the inning.

The Canaries finally broke through in the fifth when Perucki singled and Kain followed with a two-run homer to left, his second of the season, to give the Canaries a 2-0 lead.

In the sixth the Canaries got some insurance when Richard Stock singled and Shover doubled him home. Crenshaw went the distance for his second complete game of the season, but received his first loss of the season.
