
Explorers Score Ten Runs In Win Over Winnipeg

Sioux City Explorers News Release
The Sioux City Explorers scored a colossal of runs Friday night vs Winnipeg, winning with a score of 10-4 over the Goldeyes.
The X's scored right away putting two runs on the board in the first inning. Michael Lang had the first hit of the night singling with one out in the inning and later stealing second base. Rene Tosoni and Brock Kjeldgaard both reached safely on a single and a walk to load them up for X's shortstop Noah Perio Jr. Perio ripped an RBI single which scored Lang and moved the runners to second and third with still only one out. The next at-bat was a sac-fly RBI to centerfield by Ryan Court that scored Tosoni.
Sioux City plated another two runs in the third on two hits and an error to extend their lead 4-0. In the fourth inning Winnipeg scored their first two runs of the game when designated hitter Jon Weber ripped a two run double cut the lead to 4-2.
In the sixth inning, Matty Johnson smacked a one out triple to put him in scoring position. Johnson went on to score on the next at-bat off an RBI single by Michael Lang. The X's right-fielder stole second and third, and later scored on a single by Brock Kjeldgaard. Sioux City would score one more time later in the inning off an RBI single by Ryan Court.
The Explorers kept the runs coming plating three more runs in the eighth to give them an astounding ten runs on the contest. Sioux City finished with ten runs off of sixteen hits Friday night.
Winnipeg did score two more runs in the ninth inning off a two run single by Brad Boyer, but that would be all for the Goldeyes. They finished four runs off six hits while leaving nine on-base. Final score, Explorers 10, Goldeyes 4.
Winning pitcher for Sioux City was starter Patrick Johnson who went six innings, allowing two runs, off three hits while striking out a whopping eight batters. Losing pitcher was Goldeyes righty Matt Jackson who gave up nine nuns in 5.1 innings pitched.
The Explorers had six batters finish with two hits in the game. Michael Lang went 2 for 5 with two runs, an RBI and three stolen bases which continues whats been a very hot start to the season for the right-fielder. Second baseman Ryan Court had two runs scored and two RBIs in the contest, and catcher Matt Koch had himself a three RBI night.
The X's play the final game vs the Goldeyes on Saturday at 7:05. Sioux City will have an off-day on Sunday, but will start a four game series vs the Lincoln Saltdogs on Monday (June 15th) at Lewis and Clark Park.
