Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (10-10) only mustered four hits and scored three unearned runs as they lost the opener of the a three game series to the Kansas City T-Bones (7-12) 8-3 on Friday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The T-Bones came out of the gate swinging as they put up two runs on four hits in the first inning against Lemurs starting pitcher Scott Garner to give Kansas City a 2-0 lead.
The Lemurs would put up two unearned runs in the fourth when Juan Silverio reached on the first of three errors on the night by T-Bones third baseman Jake Blackwood. The next batter, Denis Phipps, walked and D'Vontrey Richardson would be the next one to take advantage of a Blackwood miscue. Richardson hit a soft ground ball to third, Blackwood charged and made a wild throw to first which allowed Silverio to score. Phipps ended up on third and Richardson went to second on the play. Lemurs first baseman Tony Delmonico came up next and hit sac-fly to right that brought home Phipps from third to tie the game at two.
The T-Bones didn't wait long to re-take the lead as they grabbed two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 4-2 T-Bones. They would extend the lead in the seventh with a three run home run to top off a four-run inning.
The Lemurs scored another unearned run in the eighth when Delmonico reached on Blackwoods' third error of the game. After a Byron Wiley walk, Delmonico reached second base and was later driven home by a Jimmy Mojica single to center to make the 8-3 T-Bones.
