Saints a Part of History in 10-1 Loss to Les Aigles

TROIS RIVIERS, QC (May 28, 2013) - The answer: The St. Paul Saints. Who is the first team that Trois-Rivieres Aigles defeated in their first game at Stade Fernand-Bedard? With an excited crowd on hand to witness the first game in the clubs history the Saints went down by a final of 10-1.

Les Aigles did to the Saints what they have been doing to every other team, score big in the first inning. With two outs Jon Smith doubled and Steve Brown followed with an RBI single to give les Aigles a 1-0 lead. Emerson Frostad walked and Brett Flowers knocked home two with a double to give les Aigles a 3-0 lead. Drew Miller finished the scoring with an RBI single for a 4-0 lead.

In the third les Aigles plated three when Brown led off by being hit by a pitch. Frostad singled him to second and the two moved up on a passed ball. Flowers made it 5-0 on an RBI single. After a walk to Miller loaded the bases, Phillipe Deslisle hit a grounder to short that Adam Frost bobbled, but managed to get the out at second. The throw to first got by Dan Kaczrowski and two runs scored to give les Aigles a 7-0 lead. Saints starter Wes Roemer went 3.0 innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out four.

The two lone bright spots for the Saints started in the fourth. Craig Brazell hit his first homer of the season, a towering blast to right, that made it 7-1. That was all the offense the Saints would get as they had only one other runner reach second the entire night.

The other bright spot was reliever George Jensen who tossed 3.0 perfect innings of relief from the fourth through the sixth. He struck out three.

Les Aigles starter Charlie Weatherby was magnificent hurling 8.0 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking two and striking out six.

The same two teams meet Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. eastern. The Saints send RHP Luke Anderson (0-0, 4.66) to the mound against les Aigles RHP Jeff Shields (0-2, 5.59). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
