Bullpen Comes up Big in RedHawks 6-5 Defeat of Sioux Falls

FARGO, N.D. - Every player in the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks starting lineup recorded a hit and the bullpen combined to give up only one earned run in 6 1/3 innings, for a 6-5 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries in front of a sell-out crowd of 4,503 Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field.

Zach Penprase led the charge going 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Penprase has six hits in the last two games.

The lead between the two teams went back-and-forth, with seven lead changes occurring throughout the game.

Down 4-3 heading into the fifth, an RBI single by Fargo-Moorhead's Ryan Pineda tied the game at 4-4. Penprase reached base on a single with one out in the sixth, advanced to second on a steal and scored on a Jose Garcia single to give the club its first lead since the first inning. Garcia scored the sixth run of the game by stealing home on a double-steal and served as the eventual game-winning run.

RedHawks starter Ethan Opsahl lasted only 2 2/3 innings allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks. MacKenzie King came in during the third and eventually pitched 2 1/3 innings only allowing two hits. Nate Kilcrease (1-0) followed by going 2 1/3 innings, while giving up one earned run but earned the win. Joe Harris struck two batters out in an inning of relief and Chase Johnson recorded the final two outs for his first save of the season.

Nic Jackson, Keith Brachold and Pineda had two hits each for the RedHawks (4-8). Tim Alberts hit a solo home run in the third and scored two runs.

Sioux Falls' John Alonso had three hits to lead the Canaries (4-8) at the plate. Nick Van Stratten had two hits and Jack Taylor went 2-for-3 with a team-high 2 RBIs.

Adam Champion earned a no-decision for Sioux Falls, scattering 10 hits over five innings and allowing four earned runs with four strikeouts. Kyle Vazquez dropped to 0-2 after an inning of relief in which he gave up two earned runs on three hits. Keith Clark pitched two scoreless innings for the Canaries.
