Laredo Lemurs News Release
LAREDO, TX - The Winnipeg Goldeyes fished out three runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the night at Shaw Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Lemurs opened the game by scoring a couple of runs in the first, Marcos Rodriguez working out of the leadoff spot for the first time this year, he started the game off with a double. His doubled was followed by a Jimmy Mojica Single, and then Sawyer Carroll was issued a walk to load the bases. Then John Allen came to the plate and hit a ground ball up the middle to score Rodriguez and Mojica to give the Lemurs a 2-0 lead in the first.
The Lemurs would score again in the third to put them up 3-0 but it was all Winnipeg after that. The Goldeyes picked up a run in the fourth to make it 3-1 Lemurs.
In the sixth inning is when the real trouble happened for the Lemurs. Josh Mazzola started the inning by reaching one a single, Tim Smith followed up with a single of his own to put runners at first and second. Luis Alen then hit into a fielder choice with the out being made at third to erase Mazzola. Ryan Scoma then came to the plate and doubled into right field to score two runs that tied up the game. Amos Ramon would finish up the scoring with single to drive in Scoma and give the Goldeyes the 4-3 lead and the win.
Lemurs starting pitcher Mark Serrano stayed in the whole game throwing eight complete, giving up 4 runs, on twelve hits, with one walk, and two strikeouts. The Lemurs are short handed in Winnipeg due to injury and Serrano had to stay in the game longer than normal due to injury to other Lemurs players. Serrano took his first loss of the season in the outing moving his record to 3-1.
Mark Hardy pitched a nice game for the Goldyes after settling in. He finished the game throwing seven, giving up seven hits, three runs, with one walk, and six strikeouts on the night. The win moves Hardy to 3-0 in the early going of the 2013 season.
